From February 2022 to July 2022 I participated in the minor Liberal Arts at ArtEZ in Zwolle. I focused on art, philosophical depth and cultural broadening. I used art and philosophy as a source of inspiration for asking and answering questions about myself, my role as a designer, my life and my place in the world.
During my study, the minor was a moment of stillness, reflection and connection to art. I worked in an environment without any expectations which gave space to discover myself and focus on the way I live and work in the world.
An important part of the minor was the book "Ist das ein Mensch?" from Primo Levi. Together with a small group of students we read the book and exchanged our experiences. Afterwards we had to give an answer to the book in an artistic way. During reading I marked words or sentences that caught my attention. I wrote them down on a large paper and read them out loud. I was deeply touched by the sober descriptions of the horrors that Primo Levi had to experience.
The art academy offered endless possibilities outside the familiar terrain of my own study which I enjoyed to the fullest. I experimented with different mediums, learned to slow down and got a deep connection to the other students and their work.
In the workshops at the academy I was able to dive deeper into my passion for printing. I made a linocut and printed it in different colours on different papers. Each gives a whole different impression on the linocut.
